The LVRT Control Scheme for PMSG-Based Wind Turbine Generator Based on the Coordinated Control of Rotor Overspeed and Supercapacitor Energy Storage

With the increasing penetration level of wind turbine generators (WTGs) integrated into power system, WTGs are enforced to aid network and fulfill low voltage ride through (LVRT) requirements during faults. To enhance LVRT capability permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-based WTG connected grid, this paper presents a novel coordinated control scheme named overspeed-while-storing for PMSG-based WTG. The proposed purely regulates rotor speed reduce input machine-side converter (MSC) slight sags. Contrarily, when severe sag occurs, sets at upper-limit decrease MSC greatest extent, while surplus is absorbed by supercapacitor energy storage (SCES) so as its maximum capacity. Moreover, specific capacity configuration SCES detailed in paper. effectiveness enhancing validated under different levels sags fault types MATLAB/Simulink.
